In this article you will find estimates of the ethnic economy by legislative district in Minnesota and the case for sustained long term investments in wealth building tools and resources for the ALANA (African Latino Asian and Native American) communities of Minnesota. I am an economist, professor and economic development practitioner with over 30 years of experience. It can be done.
Please share with your legislators and ask them to create sustained long term investment funds for ALANA wealth building this session that will benefit their/your district creating jobs, income and wealth.
Share the district link on social media outlets in your region/district and encourage people to connect with the three legislators. The larger the ethnic economy the more dependent they are on the ALANA vote.
More than 80 percent of House and Senate Districts have at least 10 percent of ALANA people in the district. They can win or lose an election by that margin. 52 percent of Senate Districts and 51 percent of House districts have at least 20 percent of their population – ALANA people. In other votes if these legislators adequately represented their constituents we could pass the needed legislation to build wealth. Here is an example of long term wealth building Funds – say over 10 years:
$250 million – flexible capital (micro loans and micro grants, loans and grants, working capital, alternative finance such as profit sharing models, equity type instruments)
$300 million – real estate development fund to support emerging developers
$ 50 million – support for businesses to integrate cultural assets like art, music, murals, cultural events and offer “cultural destinations” all across Minnesota making Minnesota a Global Destination
$100 million to train ALANA workers to meet the needs of the labor market especially with so many Minnesotans approaching retiring age.
